Finishing Our Third Year of 'Pandemic Uncertainty' and Fatigue
As we enter 2023, the Coronavirus is still present and spreading, especially across the 'Vulnerable' and 'Yet-To-Be-Vaccinated'. It can easily increase as people gravitate to more indoor group activities. Even the vaccinated are at risk for Exposure, Multiple Re-Infections & Transmission to others. As tired as we all are, now is the time to be even more vigilant in using the basic precautions: Masks, Gloves, Distancing & Hand Washing. The more we continue to protect ourselves and others, the more we can flatten the spread aggressively (and perhaps get a bit lucky with no additional new Variants).
Until there is a very significant reduction of the viral load across the nation, the Cycle Corner will continue to maintain an overabundance of caution with respect to our customer-facing operations. The Shop's Retail Floor still remains closed to customer entry for shopping and/or browsing. All customer interactions will be conducted 'sidewalk-side' outside our main door, and at a 6' distance with a mask. We have Halted our Bike Rental Service as Supply Chain Issues has created the unavailability of appropriate Bicycles to field a Rental Fleet. All Sales and Service Evaluations will be managed as 'contact-less' as possible outside. Fitting, Handling or Testing Bikes, Apparel, Helmets or Accessories prior to purchase has been resumed, but only via our 'Sidewalk Service'.
We have been operating by the above processes above since Early-March of 2020, and found it to be the best safety compromise for all concerned. We have been fairly successful in determining your cycling requirements without the need for prior contact before purchase. Obviously, we will not be able to help everybody, but the vast majority of our customers have been satisfied given the existing situation. If you are unsure of what you might need for you cycling needs, please call us before arriving at the Shop so we may ask any relevant questions that need to be answered prior to your purchase. This may save you a trip back home to look at your bike or accessories.
The Local NJ & PA Roads had a Some Additional Repair/Repaving Through 2021 - However, More than Normal Winter Damage as well.
NJ again went through the traditional Late Summer & Fall Chip/Seal process on many of the Hunterdon County secondary and tertiary roads, although most all of it has been reasonably packed in and smoothed over by the vehicular traffic. It appears that the PA New Hope area is getting some much needed repaving. Route 32 from New Hope north to Point Pleasant has been repaved. You'll still have the 4-5 mile very choppy stretch of 32 to Dark Hollow Rd to manage before hitting the newer paving that will get you to the Frenchtown Bridge and past Upper Black Eddy/Milford.
NJ & PA River Paths Remain in Reasonable Condition
Other than strong winds knocking down a fair amount of tree debris, there are no known major obstructions or construction areas on the two Paths between Frenchtown & Washington's Crossing. The PA Path collapse by the Golden Pheasant was quickly repaired in 2017 and still requires some work, but it is passable for bikes and pedestrians. We do recommend having tires of 1.90" or wider to negotiate the PA path. Tire widths of 1.5" (35mm) or wider are recommended for the NJ Path for recreational riders. Please note that the PA side Path does tend to drain more slowly and remain soft/squishy/muddy for much longer than the NJ Path after a soaking rain.
New Bikes
We carry a dazzling array of Giant, Electra, DK, Stolen and Van Dessel bikes for all levels of interest. Whether you're seeking comfort and recreational bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX or high-end racing models, we've got you covered.
Rentals
Rentals Remain Suspended for 2022. This decision will be reevaluated in 2023.
Repairs
Our knowledgeable staff can get your bike in working order, whether you just need a flat fixed, a seasonal tune-up, or a major overhaul. No matter what brand bike you have, or where you bought it, we can usually fix it. All work is done on a first-come basis (we do not make appointments). Please note that we need to see and inspect a bike completely before we can offer an estimate. We are not able to offer anything other than a vague rough estimate over the phone. At times, other problems surface once the bike is in the repair stand or taken out for a test ride. We always call to discuss significant unforeseen costs before proceeding with a repair.
We do not limit our repair work to recent models or only bike we sell. We will attempt to repair, refurbish or restore almost any bike. We'll give you our best estimate on the work needed and let you make the decision to proceed with all or some of the suggested work.
Bicycle Restoration
Do you have a Vintage Bike? A Classic Bike? A Collectible Bike? A bike with strong Sentimental Value? Your Childhood "Rosebud"? We can restore it to its best possible condition. While we do not perform repainting or re-chroming, we can debride, de-rust, clean and restore your ride to uncover its hidden beauty. Stop by and see "Before and After" photo collection of our past projects. Usually, Major Restoration work is usually performed during the winter months when we have larger blocks of time to dedicate to this delicate process. Bikes that may require only 5-15 hours of total restoration time can usually be squeezed into our schedule at almost any time. Give us a call to schedule an evaluation and assessment of your bike, its needs, as well as your ultimate goals.
