Lots of Rain - Lots of Heat and Humidity - A Scarcity of Good Riding Days
Maybe the Fall weather will bring a more moderate climate that's conducive to riding. Who Knows? Either way, we will all be looking for those nice days that allow for a decent outside ride on the trails or roads.
The Local NJ & PA Roads had a Surprising Amount of Repair/Repaving Through Mid-to-Late 2017.
Both PA32 and NJ29 had stretches of resurfacing on their most needed parts. Unfortunately, the bitter early winter blast wrecked havoc on the older sections of our local riding roads. Asphalt delamination and significant potholes quickly appeared. The temporary "fixes" seemed of little help. Road conditions were are much more hit-or-miss and may remain that way for a while. Be extremely observant on your routes until you familiarize yourself with any potential new road hazards.
NJ & PA River Paths Remain in Reasonable Condition
There are no known obstructions or construction areas on the two Paths between Frenchtown & Washington's Crossing. The PA Path collapse by the Golden Pheasant was quickly repaired last year. We still recommend having tires of 1.90" or wider to negotiate the PA path. Tire widths of 1.5" (35mm) or wider are recommended for the NJ Path for recreational riders. Please note that the PA side Path does tend to drain more slowly and remain soft/squishy/muddy for much longer than the NJ Path after a soaking rain.
We carry a dazzling array of Giant, Electra, DK, Stolen and Van Dessel bikes for all levels of interest. Whether you're seeking comfort and recreational bikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX or high-end racing models, we've got you covered.
If you're in town on holiday and need a bike to explore the Path along the river, or want to venture inland, we always have a new fleet of 16 Giant Sport/Comfort bikes available in 2-hour, 4-hour, or 24-hour periods. There are limited specialty-bikes also available. See our "Rentals" page for complete information. Multi-day rentals are also available.
New for 2018, we added an Electric Pedal Assist TownieGO! to our Rental Fleet. If you're interested in experiencing what an electric bike can do for you, give this recreartional/leisure bike a try.
We sell off our new Rental Fleet after each season. Our remaining 2017 Fleet of Sedona DX's and Cypress' are available for immediate purchase. We are populating the new 2018 Fleet at the moment.
As always, the Rental Bikes are placed in the Fleet new and exit each year slightly used, with some minor "battle scars". We equip them with: a water bottle cage; a bell; and flat sealant in both tubes. Our Rentals are used for the current rental season, cleaned & detailed, then released around the end of November or early December. The annual reservation period opens April 1, so call or drop by to reserve your choice of bike. A $100 deposit (or payment in full) holds the bike(s) of your choice until we are through the rental season. These units come with Giant's full Warranty, as if sold as new. They also come with our Lifetime Free Adjustment benefit. These bikes go quick when available, so give us a call or stop by to determine the right bike (size, gender, color) for you. See the list of Available Rentals here
We also offer several high-end, carbon fibre, performance road bicycles for those who need the very best, or do not want to travel with (or ship) their personal uber-steed to the NJ area. Most folks supply their own pedals (to go with their shoes) and some even bring their favorite saddle. We'll set you up so you need not expose your bike to potential travel damage. We also have a soft-sided bike travel case available for rent. Call us for rental details.
Our knowledgeable staff can get your bike in working order, whether you just need a flat fixed, a seasonal tune-up, or a major overhaul. No matter what brand bike you have, or where you bought it, we can usually fix it. All work is done on a first-come basis (we do not make appointments). Please note that we need to see and inspect a bike completely before we can offer an estimate. We are not able to offer anything other than a vague rough estimate over the phone. At times, other problems surface once the bike is in the repair stand or taken out for a test ride. We always call to discuss significant unforeseen costs before proceeding with a repair.
We do not limit our repair work to recent models or only bike we sell. We will attempt to repair, refurbish or restore almost any bike. We'll give you our best estimate on the work needed and let you make the decision to proceed with all or some of the suggested work.
Do you have a Vintage Bike? A Classic Bike? A Collectible Bike? A bike with strong Sentimental Value? Your Childhood "Rosebud"? We can restore it to its best possible condition. While we do not perform repainting or re-chroming, we can debride, de-rust, clean and restore your ride to uncover its hidden beauty. Stop by and see our vintage 1973 Schwinn Apple Krate that underwent 60 hours of cleaning, detailing, and polishing. Major Restoration work is usually performed during the winter months when we have larger blocks of time to dedicate to this delicate process. Bikes that may require 5-15 hours of total restoration time can usually be squeezed into our schedule at almost any time. Give us a call to schedule an evaluation and assessment of your bike, its needs, as well as your ultimate goals.
Helmets...clothing...gloves...pumps...lights...accessories. We've got everything you need so you can be outfitted from head to toe & wheel to wheel. Ride with safety in mind, but look good and feel good doing it!
We know this area well, and can help you find good places to ride. Check out our "Rides" page for more info.
